Graduates of the accountancy specialisation will now be accepted by Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand as having met the academic requirements for provisional Accountancy Technician membership.

According to IPU New Zealand Academic Registrar Hannah White this will bring big benefits to students. New depth in the specialisations available within the International Business major has been developed in consultation with industry players.

“This exciting development is so important for our graduates in their career pathways,” she says.

“Students not only gain a formal degree-level qualification that covers accounting and wider international business studies, but the knowledge they gain will also be recognised by the New Zealand and Australia accounting industry standards.

Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand will accept Bachelor of Contemporary International Studies graduates who have completed a minimum of 240 credits across a range of subjects including financial accounting, New Zealand business law, principles of economics, auditing, taxation, and fundamentals of corporate finance as provisional accountancy technicians. Graduates then complete a set number of industry hours in practice to be granted Accountancy Technician status.
