NZMA student takes out top hospitality accolade

An NZMA hospitality student, Xiangying Zan (Brandy), has won New Zealand Training Food and Beverage Service Person of the Year at the prestigious New Zealand Culinary Fare. Paul Wyber, also of NZMA, took out ‘Best in Show’ in the Classic Cocktails Open category and students from across NZMA’s three campuses brought home 48 medals between them.

NZMA�s new campus wins top title in NZ Property Council awards

NZMA’s new Sylvia Park Campus has taken out one of the top awards at the Property Council NZ Rider Levett Bucknall Property Industry Awards.

The architecturally designed training facility in Carbine Road earned an award of ‘Excellence’ in the Coffey Education and Arts Property Award category, competing against big players such as AUT and the historic Knox College in Dunedin.

NZMA hospitality and cookery campus in the spotlight for acclaimed award

NZMA’s purpose-built hospitality and cookery school in Sylvia Park, Auckland has claimed one of the top spots in the New Zealand Property Council’s prestigious Rider Levett Bucknall property awards. NZMA’s Sylvia Park Campus has been named a finalist in the Coffey Education and Arts Property category, up against six other organisations including Victoria University, AUT, St Mary’s College and the Wellsford War Memorial Library.

New NZMA campus brings art and training to Sylvia Park

NZMA has teamed up with one of New Zealand’s top graffiti artists to inject Sylvia Park with some vibrant colour.

Sparrow Phillips, of the Cut Collective, has just completed a striking 40 metre by 11 metre wall mural next to NZMA’s newly opened Sylvia Park Campus. Commissioned by NZMA, the artwork celebrates the multicultural flavour of both the school and the local community and expresses three of the provider’s core values – whanau, excellence and respect. Different elements of hospitality and cookery have also been incorporated into the design, reflecting the specific training that is delivered at the unique East Auckland facility.

As a little girl Litichia Franklin always dreamed of becoming a builder. But 30 years ago female builders were unheard of and Litichia was repeatedly told “girls can’t do that”.

Luckily times have changed. The mother of five, and grandmother of eight, has recently graduated from NZMA in Otahuhu with her Level 4 Certificate in Building. It’s the first step on the path to realising her lifelong dream – and to proving that girls can do anything.

Hayley Flintoff is one of The Learning Connexion’s adventurous South Island students living in Wanaka. She has surrounded herself with creative friends and is living her passions - snowboarding and art-making. She recently won the Noscars video competition – taking away prizes of a heli-skiing trip, a sky dive, snow pants and a jacket - by submitting a video of her painting a mountain scene interspersed with some footage she shot in Wanaka.

NZMA Students Top of the Ranks in National Hospitality Competition

A world-class competition has proved that New Zealand’s hospitality industry is hosting a ton of talent – and students from NZMA are at the top of the leaderboard.

The prestigious New Zealand Culinary Fare, held at the ASB Showgrounds from August 18 – 20, saw hundreds of competitors from around the country test  their skills against their industry equals in a wide range of front-of-house and back-of-house events. Many brought home medals, and all had the chance to showcase their ability to the judges, spectators, and future employers.

Salvation Army Enjoys a Taste of NZMA Hospitality

A charity dinner proved to be the perfect occasion for NZMA students to showcase their skills and give back to their local community.

On July 25 the Salvation Army hosted a special evening for volunteers from its Tamaki area.  Cookery and hospitality students from NZMA Panmure volunteered their services for the event, cooking a mouth-watering two-course meal for the 65 guests and also taking responsibility for the set-up, meal service and pack down.
